eavesdropping on bedtime

I’m blogging from my bed, about ready to collapse in exhaustion from this weekend. But before I do… I thought I’d share a little bit of the precious talk I’m overhearing from Superman’s night night talk with Hubby.

They were discussing making a cake for Jesus’s birthday and Superman suggested that his mom could come and cut it out for him.

A brief review of the children’s choir’s songs from church this morning.

Something about a reindeer that lives in a house and two children who take care of it and love reindeer and they’re not kids from his preschool class.

A reciting of all the names of the kids in his preschool class.

Something about a red block at his school.

This is all in addition to the discussion he and I already had about how he was scared of witches and ghosts in costume’s at his cousin’s house and about how you make a thumbs up signal.

Now a rundown of people he sat beside, i think.

While I wait for more chatter.. I should tell you a few things.
1. Superman pooped in the bathtub the other day… while he was taking a bath. Props out to Hubby for cleaning up the floating poopy. He’s pretty much the best ever!!!

2. My mom, dad, sister and brother in law were here from Thursday until today. Dad did just about every dirty dish and the ones he didn’t do, I think my friend Jackie did.

3. Ladybug had poop on her legs, her nose, under her fingernails, in her crib, etc. this afternoon when we went to get her from nap time. Again, Hubby dove in and cleaned it up for me. Again… the best ever. I don’t want you to get the impression that Hubby enjoys cleaning up excrement, but he’s always so willing to jump right in.

4. Speaking of excrement, my aunt and uncle were here for dinner last night and we made them play Fact or Crap with us and my above mentioned family members.

5. We got a free mini Foosball table from freecycle. The kids love it.

6. We are going to go get a free Dora toddler bed tomorrow!!!

7. I went shopping at 4 a.m. on Friday so my mom could get a free Mickey Mouse snow globe from JCpenny’s . A good time was had by all. Or most.

8. I definitely cooked the turkey with it’s “bag” still in. Not sure what effect that really had on the actual cooking of the turkey, except I know that I was worried it would melt or something. I pulled out what i presumed to be the neck (oh.. yum- note sarcasm) but couldn’t find the mysterious bag up the turkey’s butt.

That’s all for now. I know, I know… thrilling, riveting blogging. I do what I can folks!

So! Ladybug has been asking me to kiss her various boo-boos as they occur… We have to literally drop everything to kiss her elbow or her knee. It’s pretty adorable and obnoxious at the same time. Adorable in that Superman never really asked me to kiss an ouchie and she’s so cute. Obnoxious in that we can’t move on from what we’re doing, like walking or breathing, until her ouchie has been kissed.
I was in the downstairs bathroom trying to freshen it up a bit since Uncle Tifton is coming to visit this afternoon, when I heard a crash. Ladybug had fallen on the mess of dominoes that Superman scattered all over the library. She came to find me saying, my butt… my butt… Mommy, pwease kiss my butt, Mommy.

Kiss my butt Mommy! Words I surely didn’t expect to hear from her until she was at least 13. Ah… kids are maturing so much faster these days!!

Also, yesterday, Superman took a 2 hour nap. It was great. Last night, we paid for it… He couldn’t fall asleep. He was up until 11:30, unable to let his little self rest. And this morning we are continuing to suffer the wrath of the sleepy child- whining, crying and carrying on… that’s what sleepy little boys are made of. Have a nice time at preschool today, Superman. You tow, teachers!!!

We were supposed to have a behavioral therapist come to observe here tomorrow. Needless to say, after I made the appointment and talked to Hubby, he pointed out that Superman would be bouncing off the walls because EVERYONE IS COMING ON THURSDAY, and I would be cleaning like a fiend and cooking like Rachael Ray because EVERYONE IS COMING ON THURSDAY….. I rescheduled the appointment for sometime next week. We want an accurate observation and I am thankful to God for my husband’s wisdom!!

You know… I love me some baking. Every year I plan and plot out the ridiculous amount of cookies I am going to make for Christmas. And some years I even go so far as to you know, buy the actual ingredients and make some of the ridiculous amount of cookies. Sometimes I only make 2-3 kinds of things and that’s it. And then we all get fatter because we eat it all. Nothing says Happy Holidays like a little extra chub. Anyway… I found this yummy sounding recipe from my Kraft magazine for Chocolate, Cranberry, Oatmeal Bars and I decided to whip them up “real quick” tonight before I put the kiddos to bed…. I popped them in and everything was going according to my plan. The timer went off and I pulled out my yummy creation only to discover that they were nowhere near done. Neat. I had accidently set the oven to 250 instead of the necessary 350. Oh well! They’ll be ready sooner or later. Let’s just hope that I remember to set the oven at the correct temperature on Thursday when I make Thanksgiving turkey or we will be in a whole world of trouble folks!!

I don’t think that anyone reading this who has been in my home holds the illusion that it is immaculate. I am not exactly the world’s greatest at keeping the house clean and tidy. If I lived alone, and did not eat, wear clothing, or do anything but stare at the walls… my house would be spotless. However, I live with three other people, a hairy beast of a dog, and I do, in fact, eat and wear clothing (sometimes lots of it in one day). I don’t stare at the walls. My house is NOT neat and tidy.
I hate that. I want a neat and tidy house. One that is clean and welcoming and warm. Here’s the thing…. two of the three people who also live in this house, well… they could care less what the house looks like, as long as I play with them and feed them and pretty much hug them all day long. SO. I find myself in quite the dilemma. Do I try to maintain a neat and tidy home or do I try to make sure I create many precious memories for the short people? Hmmm… I could keep spinning my wheels, doing neither thing really well… OR.. I could try out yet another new plan to keep things somewhat in order, or at least provide the illusion of order. AH… there it is. I’m embarking on a new upstairs, downstairs plan. Some days are upstairs days, other days are downstairs days. That’s it. Simple. What I get done, I get done. What I don’t… I’ll come back to another day real soon. Win. Win. Win. Maybe.

Also, in case you think I’ve been keeping up with the Leslie Sansone walking that I pledged to do at the beginning of October, you should know, I’m not. I did it twice. I know…. how will I ever get in shape without exercise. I know. I know! However, I do think you should know that since I have stopped indulging in many calorie laden snacks past dinner time, I have lost about 3 lbs. I am stocked up on 60 calorie pudding and 10 calorie jello and a heap of sugar free whipped cream. Now… instead of reaching for a junky junk food when I’m stressed, bored or breathing… I just down a pudding or a jello. So far, so good. It’s working for me.

Ok… so that’s pretty much all I have to report right now. We had a long, fun weekend. J & B turned 5 and we got to celebrate their birthday with them two fun nights in a row. We are nothing if not party animals folks! Ladybug pooped on the potty this morning. Seriously. You read me right. Ladybug, the 21-month old girl…. not her Superman brother who has been in the “potty training” phase for about eternity. HE told me he pooped his pants and we went through our normal me getting upset him saying he couldn’t clean it up. His shaking his pants in the air and a certain other parent running screaming from the bathroom for fear of the impending flying poopy. When I went in to help him, I realized that there was NO POOP. Anywhere. He had NOT pooped in his pants. He was just, you know, making conversation. Or something.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Meeting Day

Well..I’m heading to a meeting this morning to see about having Superman observed at school and possibly at home. I am nervous and wondering what to expect and wondering if it’s necessary. He has had better days at school recently and is doing much better at home. It causes me to wonder if we made a few small changes here and there if that would make a greater impact. Maybe I’m in denial. I don’t know.
In other news, I think it’s time to bite the bullet and start Ladybug on potty training. I have been avoiding it, but I’m certain that she is READY. She told me when she was going yesterday and also demanded a diaper change. I bought her some cute princess underwear and hopefully we can get started!! All this while her brother still insists on pooping his pants regularly!! Good times folks, good times. I have decided that I am no longer available for poop duty for Superman, so now he has to clean up his own messes. i had hoped that this would make the pooping in the pants stop, but apparently he thinks that as long as the poop eventually makes it into the toilet, he’s pooping in the potty. Not so folks. More later!

Today’s pros & cons
Pro: Ladybug got up at 4:30 a.m. Coughing. She stopped coughing shortly afterwards.
Con: Ladybug stopped coughing when she came into our bed. No one but Superman could sleep and that’s because he was in his room. Ladybug and Daddy went downstairs. Mommy slept.. sort of.

Pro: I have great friends. Specifically Jackie!
Con: My friend had to come over in her pj’s to pick up my kids so we could run the van (aka. in a wreck and never going to run right again) to the van dr. Since I cannot drive our truck…and it’s only a two seater…. Jackie came to our rescue.

Pro: We got a new chest freezer- for free. Woohoo!!
Con: It came 45 minutes after we dropped off the van and I had to literally throw things EVERYWHERE in the basement.

Pro: Superman had a great day at school. Ladybug and I went grocery shopping because Jackie lent us her car.
Con: We went during Ladybug’s nap time. She slept on my shoulder through one entire store. She drove a car cart and tried to knock over expensive bottles of olive oil and swipe gummy lifesavers the rest of the time.

Pro: While grocery shopping, I purchased $102 worth of merchandise. Between coupons and assistance from our Uncle Ed in Harrisburg, I only paid $35. Coupons alone were worth $35. Woohooo!!!
Pro: Our grocery store is giving away free samples of all sorts of goodies to promote their new drug store feature. Good times.

Pro: Both children are sleeping.
Con: I made the mistake of letting them see the rice bin in the basement. We used it once several months ago and they threw rice all over the floor. We haven’t used it since. Tonight, I let them bring it upstairs and Superman buried his bus in it for a long time. Until his sister came along and they decided to empty about 5lbs. of it onto the kitchen floor. Hubby wasn’t happy. A good time was had by all.

Pro: I made alphabet soup. It was delicious.
Con: As I type this, it occurs to me that I made clam chowder in the crockpot and it was supposed to have been turned off by now. Got to go!
